Remembering Sridevi on her 57th Birthday
Mumbai, August 13 (HS) Today is the 57th birth anniversary of late actress Sridevi. Sridevi is not among us but her memories are still in the minds of her audience. Sridevi was one of the most beautiful and famous actresses of Bollywood, who made her acting debut as a child artiste. She acted in several Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films.
Born on August 13, 1963, Sridevi’s real name was Shri Amma Iyenger Ayyapan. Known as the first superstar of Indian cinema, Sridevi started her acting career at the age of four as a child artiste in Tamil film ‘Kandhan Karunai’. She was also honored with the Kerala State Film Award for the 1971 Malayalam film Poombatta.
In 1972, Sridevi made her Bollywood debut with the film Rani Mera Naam. In this film, Sridevi got a chance to work with famous actor Ashok Kumar. The 1979 film ‘Sixteenth Sawan’ was Sridevi’s first film in Bollywood as a lead actress.
She got her real identity from the 1983 film ‘Himmatwala’. In this film, Sridevi was seen opposite actor Jeetendra. Sridevi’s performance in the film was well received by the audience and the film proved to be a blockbuster at the box office
With this, Sridevi joined the top actresses of Bollywood at that time. At that time every big producer wanted to take Sridevi in their films.
Sridevi’s major films include Tohfa, Sadma, Nagina, Mr India, Chalbaaz, Chandni, Khuda Witness, Ladla, MrBechara, Judai, English Vinglish, Mom and so on.
From 1985 to 1992, Sridevi used to charge the highest fee in Bollywood. Her career was at a height when she married producer Boney Kapoor in the year 1996, although Boney Kapoor was already married. Sridevi and Boney Kapoor have two daughters Jahnavi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Jahnavi has stepped into Bollywood as an actress.
Sridevi was honored with several awards for her unprecedented contribution to cinema. At the same time, the Government of India also awarded the Padma Shri Award in the year 2013. Sridevi died in Dubai on February 24, 2018.
