Relief from HC for protesting students of JNU, order for registration on old fees only.
New Delhi, Jan 24 (HS): The Delhi High Court has given a big relief to the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). During the hearing on Friday, the Delhi High Court ordered that the students should be allowed to register only on the basis of old fees. The court said that no late fees will be charged from these students.
The next hearing of the case will be held on February 28. Earlier in the court, counsel for the JNU student organization Kapil Sibal said that the increase in fees is illegal. Along with this, he said that the High-Level Committee of JNU did not have the right to change the hostel manual.
When the JNU administration asked to collect the fees of many students, Kapil Sibal, who is lobbying the students, said that the children came under pressure and deposited the fees due to fear. Kapil Sibal said that the administration should take back the increased fees, the students from whom the money is taken should also be returned.
Counsel for the petitioner Kapil Sibal also demanded a stay on the draft hostel manual from the court. The JNU administration had increased the hostel fees drastically. Single room rent was increased from Rs 20 to Rs 600. At the same time, double room rent was also increased from Rs 10 to Rs 300. After the fees were increased by the university, the students started the movement. Due to this, the administration reduced the single room rent from 600 to 300 and the single room rent was reduced from 300 to 150 rupees.
The student union moved the court against the increase in fees and challenged the decision of the university administration in the Delhi High Court. Senior advocate and Congress leader Kapil Sibal, on behalf of the student union, presented the favor.
