Former BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri has taken the lead against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi in Kalkaji, early trends showed on Saturday. The BJP fielded him to challenge Atishi, who won the seat in 2020. Congress has nominated Alka Lamba, making it a three-way contest.

Bidhuri’s Political Journey

A senior BJP leader, Bidhuri has been in politics since 1993. He served as BJP’s district president (1997–2003) and later as Delhi BJP vice president (2003–2008). He represented Tughlakabad as an MLA three times before winning two consecutive terms as South Delhi’s MP. This time, BJP chose him for the Kalkaji battle.

A Heated Contest

Bidhuri sparked multiple controversies during the campaign. He mocked Atishi, comparing her to a deer.

“Atishi never met the people in the last four years. Now, with elections here, she is roaming the streets like a deer in the forest,” he said.

He also questioned her surname change, saying, “This Marlena became Singh and changed her name. Kejriwal swore not to join the corrupt Congress, and now Marlena changed her father. This is their character.”

High-Stakes Fight

Atishi, a key AAP leader, remains a strong contender. With early trends favoring Bidhuri, the battle for Kalkaji is intensifying. Final results will decide if BJP can flip this crucial seat.
