Punjab hands over cheque Rs 2.50 crore to family members of deceased farmers and Journalist of Lakhimpur Kheri incident

Chandigarh , October 23 ( H S ) : The Punjab Government on Friday handed over cheques of Rs. 50 lakh each to the victim families of the farmers and a journalist, who were killed in the tragic incident at Lakhimpur Kheri District in Uttar Pradesh on October 3.

The Punjab Agriculture & Farmers? Welfare Minister Randeep Singh Nabha met these aggrieved families at Lucknow and handed over the cheques.

Welcoming the suo-moto action taken by the Supreme Court in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and demanding time bound probe to ensure justice to the victims, the Minister said that the Punjab Government has always supported the farmers? agitation against black farm laws and ever stood by the farming community. ?The Punjab Government has already given a government job to one member of each bereaved family of 157 farmers, who died during the ongoing agitation?, added Randeep Singh Nabha.

Notably, the four farmers viz. Daljit Singh S/o Harjit Singh, village- Bjaran Tada, Tehsil-Nanpara, District Bahraich, Gurwinder Singh S/o Sukhwinder Singh, Village-Navi Nagar Mohira, Tehsil-Nanpara, District Bahraich, Lovepreet Singh S/o Satnam Singh, Bhawant Nagar (Chokhra Farm), Tehsil- Palia, Janpad, Lakhimpur Kheri and Nachhatar Singh s/o Suba Singh, Namdar Purwa, Amethi, Tehsil-Doraha, Janpad, Lakhimpur Kheri besides a journalist Raman Kashyap, Nighasan, Lakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh) lost their lives in the tragedy.
