Punjab Assembly Gherao: Sukhbir Badal and others arrested

Chandigarh, March 1 (H S ):Chandigarh Police used water cannons to stop the Akali Dal activists from besieging the Vidhan Sabha.Police have arrested other leaders including SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia. The turbans of many activists were also lost due to the water cannon. The Akali activists gathered in large numbers in Sector 25 and marched to the Vidhan Sabha.

Chandigarh police had also set up barricades to stop the Akali activists. Akali activists removed the barricades. To stop Akali activists going towards Punjab Assembly, the Police had to restore the water cannon.

Ahead of the start of Governor’s address, Akali Dal MLAs led by Bikram Singh Majithia raised slogans of “go back Governor” over the farm Bills.

The Opposition members questioned the Governor for “not sending the amendments” passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on the farm Bills to the President.
