Public trust broken: AAP councillor criticizes Delhi govt’s ‘Mahila Samman’ scheme
On Wednesday, AAP councillor Ravindra Solanki criticized the Delhi government’s ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana.’ The scheme proposed increasing financial aid for women from ₹1,000 to ₹2,100. Solanki accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of failing to fulfill the ₹1,000 allowance promise before announcing the new scheme.
“Many women visit our office asking about the ₹1,000 allowance. None have received it, and now they are queuing for the proposed ₹2,100 allowance,” Solanki stated. “The public no longer trusts us, and we lack answers for them,” he added, as quoted by ANI.
The controversy deepened after Delhi’s women and child development and health departments issued public notices. They distanced themselves from the proposed schemes, declaring them non-existent. The women and child development department warned against fraud, stating, “Any person or party collecting forms or information for this scheme is committing fraud. No such scheme exists, and no registrations are being accepted.”
Amid this criticism, Kejriwal alleged a political conspiracy by the BJP. He claimed the opposition was unsettled by the ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’ and the elderly healthcare scheme, ‘Sanjeevani Yojana.’ On X (formerly Twitter), Kejriwal suggested BJP leaders planned to frame Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi in a fake case and arrest her soon.
The backlash has raised serious concerns about public trust in the AAP-led Delhi government. Solanki’s remarks highlight growing frustration among citizens over unfulfilled promises, which may undermine the party’s credibility.
As the controversy unfolds, the Delhi government faces pressure to clarify its stance and address public grievances. With allegations of fraud and political targeting surfacing, both the government and opposition are locked in a fierce blame game.
