Prime minister to inaugurate Kolkata’s latest cancer treatment centre

Kolkata, Oct.28 (HS): Prime minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the second campus of the  Government owned Chittranjan Cancer Medical College and Hospital at New Town early next year, opening a new window of opportunity for latest and most modern treatment of the killer disease like cancer at affordable costs.
Built at a cost of Rs 1,000 crores with entire financial assistance coming from the Union Heath ministry, this new  state of the art cancer hospital in an area of over 20 acres of prime land in one of the newly developed satellite townships of this City of Joy, would have more than 750 beds and all facilities for the latest treatment of different types of this killer disease at affordable costs.
Informing this Subhas Sarkar, an eminent physician and BJP MP from Bankura as well as the member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Health here today said as the treatment of cancer was very expensive and it was not possible for most of the common people to afford its treatment in leading private hospitals elsewhere in the country including those in Mumbai and Chennai, the inauguration of  the second new campus of the government owned Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital would certainly provide rays of hope and a new window of opportunity for all hapless cancer patients in West Bengal as well as those in other Eastern and North Eastern states for continuing their treatment at very affordable costs.
The new Hospital complex would also have separate accommodation for doctors, nurses and even for the patients’ relatives from other states,he said adding that after the proposed inauguration in January, altogether 470 beds would be functional in the first state before adding another about 300 beds within the next few months.
All latest machinery for the treatment of different types of cancer had already been installed in the hospital where the final touches were now being given before announcing the final date of its inauguration was known after getting the required confirmation from the Prime minister’s office about his availability, Sarkar told Hindusthan Samachar replying to a query.
