Prime Minister Modi calls up Mamata for fight against COVID-19
Kolkata,28 March(HS): Hailing the efforts of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in combating COVID-19 to prevent its rapid spread in the state, Prime minister Narendra Modi has promised all assistance to the West Bengal government to tide over the present unprecedented health and economic crisis.
The Prime minister who called up the Chief minister over the telephone last night has reportedly expressed satisfaction at the steps taken by the state administration to enforce a complete locked down in the state and several other steps to ensure steady and uninterrupted supply of all essential commodities to the people besides preventing the spread of the disease.
On the other hand the Chief minister also reportedly thanked the Prime minister for announcing a massive economic package of Rs 1.70 lakh crores yesterday for benefiting the poor and said it was a very timely decision taken by the Union government.
The Chief Minister also reportedly requested Prime minister Modi to take steps to grant permission to the state for setting up a number of testing centres for the suspected Coronavirus patients and ensure supply of enough kits and ventilators for this purpose, to which the Prime minister had reportedly agreed to take immediate steps.
Incidentally, this was the first such direct talks between the two leaders after the break out of the COVID-19 as a pandemic which has so far claimed 19 lives in the country including one in West Bengal.
More than 850 people have so far been found positive of carrying the killer virus in the country including 15 in West Bengal.
