Power Grid engineers proved their excellence in controlling shut down situation
Kolkata,06 April(HS): Proving the apprehension of a section of ‘self-styled experts’ in social media and in other platforms wrong about the possible danger of a complete breakdown of the National Power Grid in the wake of last night’s 9 minutes shut down of lights in all homes and residences, the engineers at every State Electricity Board played a heroic role in maintaining complete normalcy round the clock with no report of any breakdown of services coming from anywhere.
According to sources at West Bengal State Electricity Board and CESC, the sole power distribution agency in Kolkata, prior calculations were made at every power station during the last 24 hours to understand the probable situation in terms of demand and supply of electricity in the state during and after the 9 minutes long shut down exercise.
As a result despite the sudden drop in demand for power at 9.p.m.last night and again the sudden jump in supply from 9-10 p.m onwards, there were no hick-ups in the Grid and that there there was no disruption in power supply anywhere, proving all self-styled critics and their unfounded apprehensions wrong.
Reiterating that the power infrastructure in West Bengal like rest of India was very robust and one of the best in the world, both WBSEB and CESC sources informed that during the 9-minute long shutdown of electricity in houses from 9.p.m last night, the total demand for power was reduced by 22 gigabytes which ultimately reached up to 26 gigabytes for a few minutes.
But since they were fully prepared to deal with the situation and maintained a balance in both generation and supply of power in every power station, such a massive fall in the demand did not prove fatal, they said and added that as the demand once against started increasing after 9-10 p.m. at the rate of about 88,559 megawatts at every minute they were able to control the situation and brought back absolute normalcy soon without causing any disruption anywhere.
Hailing the capabilities and experience of power Grid engineers to deal with such an emergency situation in an effective and efficient manner, the sources once claimed that the infrastructural facilities of the National and regional power Grids were among the best in the world.
