Ballari, June 27 (HS) It is an eye-opening story of a Covid-19 infected person and his on-duty friend’s personal experience after the confirmation of the virus being positive.
The story started at Kampli police station on Friday, after one of the police constables tested Covid-19 positive and the report, reached all on social media. Most of the readers reacted very promptly, expressed shock.
The police constable’s story goes like this, “I was on duty at Kampli police station, when one of my colleagues got infected. The matter was informed at 5 pm on Friday and it took almost 16 hours to arrange an ambulance to shift my friend to hospital. It was disturbing waiting for the ambulance. “Sir, I cannot stay at home, my family members, neighbours  behaving very rudely. Please shift me immediately to the hospital for  treatment,” he pleaded.”
Unfortunately, getting an ambulance took almost 16 hours, though they repeatedly called the ambulance service, head of the ambulance team, police department officers and doctors, who all they know personally.
“We too are known as Covid warriors and people will appreciate our day and night service in the early days of Covid-19 outbreak in the country, but today we are in deep trouble when we are looking for timely facilities to shift our infected friend.  Kampli police station is sealed down,” he said.
“Other staff, my colleagues, who have been working with an infected friend, were very anxious and worried to return to their homes. Everyone was trying to get the Covid-19 test done at the government hospital, but the on-duty doctor refused. He argued that in the absence of symptoms and signs, collecting swab or blood was not possible. Also it came to light that there are no beds at any Covid hospital in the district. Finally after long arguments and discussions, the doctor collected my swabs to send to the Virology laboratory at VIMS hospital for the tests,” he shared.
His concern and anguish was regarding the lack of timely facilities for treatment. “So be careful and protect yourself and your family. You just have to protect yourself so that you don’t have to live with just applause,” was his advice to all.
