PM: Pali’s Classical Language Status Brings Joy to Buddha Followers
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed joy over the government’s decision to grant classical language status to Pali. He stated that this move has brought happiness to followers of Lord Buddha’s teachings.
Modi also expressed gratitude to the scholars and monks from various countries who participated in the panel discussion on “Pali as a Classical Language” organized by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) in Colombo.
Responding to a post by ‘India in Sri Lanka’ on X, Modi said, “I’m glad the decision to grant Pali classical language status has sparked joy among those who follow Lord Buddha’s ideas. I thank the scholars and monks who joined the event in Colombo.”
Earlier, Sri Lanka welcomed India’s decision in an X post, while ICCR Colombo hosted a panel on the topic with Dr. Satyanjal Pandey, India’s Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, as the chief guest.
