On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a veiled attack on Arvind Kejriwal while addressing key development projects in Delhi. He emphasized his commitment to uplifting the poor, contrasting it with what he called Kejriwal’s “luxurious tendencies.”

PM Modi remarked that instead of building a lavish ‘Sheesh Mahal’ for himself, he prioritized providing homes for the underprivileged. This comment referred to the controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s alleged extravagant spending on renovating his official residence, dubbed a “sheesh mahal” by critics.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) defended the renovations, claiming they were for future chief ministers. However, after Kejriwal resigned, the government vacated the residence for inventory checks. BJP leaders have used this issue to target the AAP, alleging misuse of public funds.

Transitioning to governance, PM Modi called the AAP’s rule in Delhi a “disaster.” He urged voters to oust the party in the upcoming polls, stressing the importance of accountability. He accused the AAP of scams and corruption, which he claimed have plagued Delhi.

“Delhi’s citizens have begun a battle against this disaster,” he said, encouraging unity against poor governance. He tied his message to BJP’s broader development agenda, highlighting ongoing and completed projects.

By blending criticism with his developmental priorities, PM Modi sought to frame the BJP as the party of progress. His speech marked a strategic move in the buildup to the elections, using Kejriwal’s controversies to consolidate support.
