PM Modi Talks Jobs, re-skilling & Deepfakes at AI Summit in France
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged global leaders to invest in skilling and re-skilling workers for an AI-driven future. Speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, he warned about AI’s potential to disrupt jobs but emphasized that technology changes work rather than eliminating it. He co-chaired the summit with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Modi stressed the need for open-source AI systems to build trust and transparency. He called for unbiased data centers and people-centered applications. Addressing concerns, he highlighted cybersecurity, disinformation, and deepfakes as major challenges.
He emphasized that AI must integrate with local ecosystems to maximize impact. He reiterated that AI’s rapid development requires a global framework for governance. Nations must collaborate to establish standards that uphold shared values, mitigate risks, and foster trust.
Focusing on the Global South, Modi urged inclusive access to AI resources. He pointed out that many regions lack essential capabilities such as power, talent, and financial resources. AI can revolutionize sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture, improving millions of lives.
To achieve this, he called for pooling global talent and resources. He reaffirmed the importance of developing open-source AI solutions to prevent biases and ensure ethical use. He also stressed the need for cooperation between nations to guide AI’s future responsibly.
Modi’s remarks underscored India’s commitment to shaping AI for the benefit of humanity. The summit highlighted AI’s potential to drive sustainable development while addressing global challenges.
