People must use the Constitution provided Rights in its true spirit: Sonowal

Guwahati, June 27 (HS): “Right to Information is a basic right of every individual. This Right can help make the administration clean and transparent and people must come forward to take advantage of this constitution provided tool in its true spirit.” said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Laying the foundation stone of the permanent office Assam Information Commission at Panjabari in the city, he highlighted the need for correct usage of Right to Information to safeguard the interest of the people and the society.
Sonowal urged the people to take advantage of this right for strengthening the democratic values of the country and uphold the spirit of equality enshrined in the Constitution. He also cautioned that misuse of this tool would greatly undermine its purpose with adverse implications on the society and therefore, he called on all stakeholders to uphold the true spirit of this Right.

Saying that young generation must take responsibility of making Indian democracy stronger by judiciously using Right to Information, the chief minister stressed on the need to make the people aware about this powerful tool and he urged Assam Information Commission to take the message of correct usage of this right to the grassroots. Informing that Assam would become the seventh state in the country to have a permanent office of the Information Commission, chief minister Sonowal hoped that this office building would inspire the young generation to use Right to Information for societal change.
