PDP ready to get consumed for upholding peoples’ agenda : Firdous Tak
Jammu, March 23(HS): Terming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the last post of resistance against undemocratic and unconstitutional onslaught, senior party leader and former legislator Firdous Tak said on Tuesday that party was ready to get consumed in its struggle to represent aspirations of people of erstwhile state instead of succumbing to the sinister designs of ruling Bhartiya Janta Party. “Power has never been the core objective of Peoples Democratic Party since its formation in 1999. We have struggled and stood for the aspirations of people of this trouble-torn region and sacrificed interests of organisation in the larger interest of Jammu and Kashmir. We still have the same belief and we know the path of resistance we have chosen for ourselves is full of challenges and trouble”, Tak, who is also party spokesperson, said in a press conference here today. “Today when the attempts are being made to weaken PDP, it’s not this organisation alone which is under line of fire but all those who still believe that they will resist and achieve their rights under constitution of this country”. The current onslaught against PDP, he said, is not because it is yet another regional political organisation but only because it represents an idea of resistance within the system. “The assault is on the majority population of Jammu and Kashmir, who resent and reject the constitutional blunder BJP has committed on August 5, 2019 by misusing parliament of India.” He said that the party and its leadership made a conscious decision to fight for the special status of Jammu and Kashmir knowing fully that it will attract an onslaught from the fascist and divisive ruling political party. “Today when we look back, we admit having suffered as an organisation but we have grown as an idea. “It was either to accept the new reality and walk the path while focusing on the corridors of power or to fight for the dignity and honour of people. We knew the danger ahead, we knew the risks involved and we knew the consequences. Our fears were proved right but nothing has shaken our resolve to stand firm”, he said.
