PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made a selfless decision ahead of the India-Pakistan Champions Trophy clash. He sacrificed a 30-seat VIP Hospitality Box at the Dubai International Stadium, worth approximately INR 94 lakh. Instead of enjoying the luxury seating for himself and his guests, Naqvi opted to sell the premium tickets and use the proceeds to fund upgrades for cricket stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Pindi.

Naqvi received an offer for 400,000 dirhams (INR 94 lakh) for the VIP box. However, he chose to watch the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan from the stands. His reason? He wanted to experience the match atmosphere alongside the fans and witness the passionate support for Pakistan firsthand. Naqvi informed both the ICC and Emirates Cricket Board about his decision.

The funds from the ticket sales will contribute to enhancing the cricket infrastructure in Pakistan. Naqvi’s decision reflects a commitment to the future of the sport in his country, prioritizing development over personal luxury.

Meanwhile, the Champions Trophy tournament will commence on February 20 with Pakistan facing New Zealand in Karachi. India, on the other hand, will meet Bangladesh in their opener the following day. The India-Pakistan match on February 23 in Dubai will be the focal point of the tournament.

Historically, Pakistan has the upper hand in Champions Trophy encounters, having won three of their five meetings with India, including the 2017 final. However, India has won five consecutive matches against Pakistan since their last defeat in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Despite Pakistan’s overall 73-57 lead in all ODI matches, India holds an 18-8 advantage in multi-nation tournaments, adding another layer of excitement to the upcoming rivalry.
