Pakistan legend shakes cricket world: ‘No Champions Trophy!’
Former Pakistan cricket captain Rashid Latif sparked controversy, opposing the 2025 Champions Trophy. Speaking at an event, Latif urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to reject the tournament before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finalizes its decision. He claimed such a stance would send a powerful message to the cricket world.
The tournament’s hosting remains uncertain after India refused to play in Pakistan due to security concerns. The ICC proposed a hybrid model, with India’s matches in Dubai and the rest in Pakistan. However, no official confirmation has been made. Latif criticized the ICC and PCB, accusing them of bowing to BCCI’s influence.
“Champions Trophy shouldn’t happen anymore. Say no before they refuse,” Latif remarked. He warned of Pakistan’s precarious position if India boycotts.
Meanwhile, the PCB, holding hosting rights, has demanded a written assurance from ICC about implementing the hybrid model for future tournaments. Sources suggest the ICC will announce its decision on Wednesday.
Despite tensions, the PCB appears ready to accept the hybrid model. This arrangement would see India play all matches, including semifinals and finals if qualified, in Dubai, while Pakistan hosts the remainder.
The debate reflects deeper challenges in international cricket, with political tensions influencing sports diplomacy. As the ICC decision looms, the Champions Trophy’s future hangs in the balance, testing unity in global cricket.
