New Delhi, June 18 (HS): All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday took oath as a Member of Parliament (MP)  in the 17th Lok Sabha amid loud greetings with slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ by several MPs from the ruling party and its allies present in the Parliament  while walking down the floor of the Lok Sabha.
However, Owaisi, an MP from Hyderabad constituency, immediately replied back to the above raised slogans ending his oath taking speech  with ”Jai Bheem, Jai Meem, Takbeer Allahu Akbar and Jai Hind” slogans.
The MIM Chief was unfazed by the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans in a deliberate attempt to rile him.
In an interview to a leading media source, Owaisi said it was good that  MPs from the ruling Modi government remembered such things while seeing him but said they must remember the constitution and  the deaths of children in Bihar’s Muzzafarpur district taking a jibe at the MPs who welcomed him during the oath taking  with ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first leader to take oath during the new session of the parliament followed by several prominent political leaders like Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Smriti Irani and Nitin Gadkari.
The vote for the Speaker of the Lok Sabha is scheduled on Wednesday with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Om Birla from Kota, Rajasthan as its candidate for the post.
