Omar Abdullah calls for ‘wind up’ of alliance after Tejashwi Yadav’s ‘2024-Only’ INDIA bloc comment
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday responded to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav’s comment about the INDIA alliance being limited to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On Wednesday, Yadav said the alliance’s main goal was to defeat the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.
He added that conflicts between parties like AAP and Congress were natural, especially with the alliance’s limited agenda. Abdullah reacted by stating that he could not comment on the Delhi elections since the National Conference (NC) was not involved. He emphasized that Congress, AAP, and other local parties should determine how to challenge the BJP in Delhi.
He acknowledged that AAP had succeeded in past elections but added that it was too early to predict the outcome of the upcoming Delhi vote.
However, Abdullah questioned the future of the INDIA alliance. He pointed out that, to his knowledge, there was no time limit to the alliance’s existence. He said there had been no recent meetings of the alliance, leaving the leadership and agenda unclear. Without progress, he suggested that the alliance should be wound up if it was meant only for the general elections.
Earlier, Abdullah had also expressed concerns about the Congress’s leadership in the INDIA bloc. Last month, he urged Congress to justify its role and not take it for granted. He stressed that the alliance should have a purpose beyond just the parliamentary elections. The last time the alliance met was shortly after the Lok Sabha results, and since then, no formal or informal discussions had taken place regarding its future.
Abdullah’s comments reflect growing concerns within the INDIA bloc about its direction and leadership. With no recent meetings or clarity on its agenda, some members are questioning whether the alliance should continue beyond its initial goal of defeating the BJP in the 2024 elections. The future of the bloc seems uncertain, and it remains to be seen how the various parties will navigate these challenges as the next election approaches.
