Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi ordered a judicial probe into the custody assault of an Army officer and his fiancée, which has sparked national outrage. After a high-level meeting, the CM announced that Justice Chittaranjan Das would lead the inquiry, with a report due in 60 days.
The ongoing Crime Branch investigation will be monitored by a High Court judge to ensure swift action. The CM emphasized the importance of the rule of law and respect for the Indian Army. He assured that the state government prioritizes the safety and rights of women. The police officers involved have been suspended, and legal action has been taken against them and others.
Majhi made the decision after consulting with deputy CMs, ministers, and senior officials. The complainants also met with government officials, along with the woman’s father and senior Army officers.
In response, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has called for a six-hour shutdown in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, starting at 6 AM, to protest the deteriorating law and order situation in Odisha.
