North Korea struggles with food shortage
Seoul, Jun. 20 (HS): Amid tension with the United States of America North Korea is facing shortage food stuff and South Korea Agriculture Food Minster Yoon Seong said they were planning to send 50 thousands tonnes of rice to North Korea under the World Food Program, as it will eliminate food shortage and improve bilateral relations.
South Korea’s minister said that his government will work with the United Nations agency to ensure that they will send food grains to North Korea without any delay.
South Korea sent 80 million US dollars to the World Food Program and United Nations Children’s Fund last week. Its purpose was to provide medical care and nutritional support to pregnant women and children of North Korea. The United Nations agency had said last week there was shortage of food for one crore people .
Kim said that South Korea and world food programme are reviewing how to send rice to North Korea. It is also being considered that sending by sea route will be more effective than air transport.
The minister said, “It will take at least two months to send 50 thousand tonnes of rice. The government will make its best efforts so that rice can send North Korea September. “
