Nitanshi Goel Celebrates Laapataa Ladies Oscar Journey: ‘I’ll Make Kalakand for Everyone!’

Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. This film will compete for an Oscar in a category previously known as Best Foreign Film.

Actress Nitanshi Goel, who plays Phool in the movie, expressed her excitement on Instagram alongside director Kiran Rao. Referencing a line from the film, she wrote, “Phool, English mein bataayein? Feeling very happy and grateful that Laapataa Ladies is India’s official entry for Oscars 2025! Kalaakand banaane ja rahi hun aap sab ke liye. Aapki Phool.”

In Laapataa Ladies, Phool accidentally swaps roles and begins working at a tea and snacks kiosk on a railway platform, run by Manju Maai, portrayed by Chhaya Kadam. Initially hesitant, Phool starts experimenting with recipes, and her kalakand becomes an instant favorite among locals. Through this journey, she rediscovers herself.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV’s Haradika Gupta, Nitanshi shared her joy: “I’m just super happy now. The news has taken away all the illness and made me dance all over my room. It was a beautiful surprise. I thought, ‘Oh my God, is this really happening?’ Then the messages started pouring in. The DMs flooded in, and when I read it, I realized, ‘OMG, this is happening. Laapataa Ladies is trending all over.'”
