Nirbhaya case convict Pawan files curative plea
New Delhi , Feb 28 (HS): Constant delays are being seen in the hanging of the accused in the Nirbhaya case. Now Pawan Gupta, one of the four death row convicts has filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court. In this petition, Pawan Gupta has demanded to commute his death sentence to life imprisonment.
On December 16, 2012, 23-year-old paramedical student Nirbhaya was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area and was thrown out of the bus in serious condition. Nirbhaya succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.
The people in protest took to the strrts and a candle light march was carried out in Delhi. The incident was also discussed internationally. During the trial, one of the convicts Ram Singh committed suicide in Delhi’s Tihar jail.
