MP Rape Accused Attempts Suicide After Five-Day Manhunt
In Madhya Pradesh, a 22-year-old man attempted suicide to avoid arrest after a massive five-day manhunt. Authorities deployed 200 police officers, 500 local residents, and a drone equipped with night vision to track him. The search spanned 250 square kilometers across Harda, Khandwa, and Betul districts.
Police caught the accused, Sunil Korku, on Sunday morning in Betul’s Mohanpura area. He had been on the run after being accused of raping a five-year-old, who was found near a river in Sirali. A case was filed, and a ₹10,000 reward was offered for information on Korku’s whereabouts.
Korku, originally from Khalwa, was found hiding in a maize field after consuming pesticide in a suicide attempt. He had thrown away his phone and walked through fields and forests to evade capture. For three days, Korku traveled across 250 square kilometers, trying to avoid the police.
To ensure his capture, officers were stationed in all 33 villages within the forested area. When Korku was apprehended, he confessed to drinking pesticide out of fear of being arrested. He was taken to a hospital and remains under police custody as investigations continue.
