Mystery shrouds death of Army man in Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ, Feb 13 (HS): In a shocking incident, body of an army man was found under mystery circumstances in the back seat of his car in Neem Sarai area under Dhoomanganj police station in Prayagraj on Saturday. Sources revealed that he was beaten to death by a mob. Wife and kin of deceased rushed to the spot and informed the police. Ambulance was arranged and victim was rushed to Militry Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The deceased has been identified as Ashutosh Singh (38), Army constable posted at Udhampur in Kashmir, who came to his native place in Allahabad, two months ago on vacation. He was supposed to board train on Saturday to resume duty at Udhampur but went missing on Friday night. On Saturday, his wife received a call from a woman identified as Anita Yadav informing that her husband is badly injured in road rash incident.

Inspector Dhoomanganj Arun Chaturvedi told HS that prima facie incident appears to be that of road rage. The army personnel sustained critical injuries after being struck on his head by a massive stone that crashed through the front windshield of his car. According to the women accompanying the army personnel, when he blew the horn, some youths got down from their bike and started abusing him. The victim even tried to pacify the youths by telling them that he wouldn’t honk again, but they picked up a quarrel with him. The angry youths started pelting stones at the car and damaged the front shield. They then threw a massive stone that broke through the windshield and hit the doctor on his head. He was rushed to military hospital but declared brought dead by doctors.”

Meanwhile, family has alleged foul. Victim’s family has accused the woman accompanying him of conspiracy and lodged a complaint against her. Family members say that victim has been killed under a conspiracy. Police has registered a case and started investigating. In view of tension in the area, police force has been deployed.
