Lucknow, 05 January (HS) :       Taking a grim view of Muradnagar tragedy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, for the first time in the state, has ordered to recover the loss to state exchequer and the amount of  government  compensation paid to the bereaved families from the erring engineer and contractor. The CM has also given instructions to the officers to take action under NSA against the contractor and engineer responsible for the accident.

Issuing orders in this regard at a meeting with officials on Tuesday, the Chief Minister also forewarned that in case of construction quality was found to be sub-standard anywhere in the state, the district magistrate and the divisional commissioner will face the music, along with the contractors and engineers.

Yogi Adityanath also said that a task force has already been constituted to check the quality of construction works in every district. The task force has been tasked to conduct surprise checks of the quality of all construction works in the district in projects exceeding Rs 50 lakh.

The Chief Minister instructed officers to conduct surprise quality checks and prepare reports for every major project thrice. He also cautioned officials against any laxity with regards to this and said the most stringent punishment will be handed out for those failing to meet quality standards in construction.

Yogi has asked the officials of the Urban Development Department to quality norms guidelines. He said that if the quality is found to be sub- standard, then the contractors, engineers as well as the responsible administrative officers should be prepared to bear the brunt of action by the state government.

The Chief Minister also instructed to provide assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the family of each deceased of Muradnagar tragedy. The CM has also given instructions to the officers to provide housing to the homeless dependents. The Chief Minister has given instructions to the officers to take action under National Security Act (NSA) against the contractor and engineer responsible for the accident. He said that the strictest action should be taken against the accused so as to make it an example for the contractors and officers working in Uttar Pradesh.

It may be noted that a total of four accused including contractor Ajay Tyagi, the prime accused in the Muradnagar accident, have been arrested so far. The CM has also sought an explanation from the Commissioner and the DM in the matter. The Chief Minister has instructed the officers to take strict action against corruption under zero tolerance policy.
