Mumbai Cops Summon Father and Son Over Hoax Bomb Threats to Flights
Mumbai Police have summoned a teenage boy, his father, and another individual from Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, for questioning. This action follows bomb threats posted on social media targeting three international flights originating from Mumbai.
On Monday, these threats disrupted air travel, affecting a New York-bound Air India flight, which was diverted to New Delhi and rescheduled. Two IndiGo flights, headed to Muscat and Jeddah, also received bomb threats and were delayed for several hours. Fortunately, police found nothing suspicious on any of the planes.
The bomb threats originated from a post on the microblogging platform X. Authorities are currently verifying the handle used. Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg confirmed that the threats were specifically directed at the Air India flight and the two IndiGo flights.
Upon learning about the connection to Rajnandgaon, the Raipur Cyber Cell, along with local police, collected electronic data related to the case. This data helped establish the link between the threats and the individuals involved.
Consequently, Mumbai Police registered a case against an unknown individual and the X handle. A team from Mumbai traveled to Rajnandgaon on Monday, working with local police to issue notices to the 17-year-old boy, his father, and the person associated with the X account. They have been summoned for questioning to assist with the investigation.
The swift actions of law enforcement reflect their commitment to ensuring passenger safety and maintaining security within the aviation sector. As investigations continue, police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
