More than 400 tourists stranded in Sikkim after cloud burst
Gangtok/New Delhi, Jun.21 (HS): After heavy rains in northern Sikkim, more than 400 tourists have been evacuated . Officials said that the tourists were trapped due to rain and roads being damaged for four days. North Sikkim collector Raj Yadav said that the administration has arranged vehicles to move 427 tourists to Gangtok.Actually, many passengers were stranded after the damage caused due to heavy rains. The district administration arranged vehicles for all the 427 tourists to go to Gangtok.
Army and private taxi operators sent some vehicles to Chungthang to bring the stranded tourists to a higher area, from where the tourists were taken to the state buses in Gangtok. The officials said breakfast was also given to the tourists. At the moment, after the cloud burst, Teesta river flows above the danger mark.
The District Commissioner of North Sikkim said that the tourists who need medical treatment will be checked by the doctors. The travel agents association of Sikkim gave free meals to the passengers .Army Gorkha Regiment and Indo-Tibetan Border Police also assisted the administration in the mission.
