Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue his annual tradition of offering a ‘chadar’ at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah for the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. This year, Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju will present the chadar on Modi’s behalf on January 4.

The tradition, which began in 2010, marks its 11th year since Modi assumed office. The offering holds great significance, symbolizing the Prime Minister’s respect and devotion to the revered shrine. The ‘chadar’ is placed over the Mazar-e-Akdas of Khwaja Garib Nawaz during the Urs, a ceremony that seeks blessings.

Recently, the Ajmer Sharif Dargah gained additional spiritual importance after a court ruling declared it a Lord Shiva temple. This adds depth to the annual ritual. In 2023, the chadar was presented by Union Minister Smriti Irani and BJP minority wing chief Jamal Siddiqui, who represented the Prime Minister and the Muslim community.

This tradition reflects India’s unity and diversity, as well as Modi’s commitment to maintaining these values.
