Modi government is committed to overhaul PSUs: Ravi Shankar

New Delhi, Jun. 26 (HS): In a bid to boost the overall functioning and revive the loss-ridden Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) of major Telecom giants such as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited (MTNL), the Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday assured that the present ruling dispensation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was committed towards overhauling these PSUs, exploring all possible options in order to making them more competitive and professional in their overall functioning.
During the  Question Hour, Prasad responded to  several queries put forth by members of the Lok Sabha, assured that the ruling Modi government was finding best viable options to revive the struggling fortunes of such PSUs by supplementing them with 4G facilities.
After assuming charge of the Telecom Ministry, Prasad cited holding 6-7 meetings with important officials in the ministry discussions about the ways improving the efficiency of major PSUs and yielding profitable dividends.
The Union Minister in the Modi Government’s cabinet also stressed upon the working together of BSNL and MTNL in more professional capacity.
Prasad added that for maintaining equilibrium  and the overall functioning of Telecom Industry, it was paramount for the public sector playing an important role keeping intact the interest of the nation.
On being asked, if the present government was looking at long-term plans to revive these PSUs, Prasad said the Modi government was committed towards bringing PSUs in better health.
The Minister refuted  the claims of Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s Kalyan Banerjee calling Centre’s ‘Digital India’ push a failure due to lack of proper internet connectivity in all places. He also  refuted that 4G services were not a necessity for banking services to succeed.
