MK Stalin blasts Centre on NEP row, claims Hindi ‘swallowed’ 25 North Indian languages

MK Stalin criticized the central government over the three-language policy, calling it an attempt to impose Hindi and erase linguistic diversity. He claimed that Hindi has “swallowed” 25 North Indian languages over time.
In a post on X, Stalin said the push for a “monolithic Hindi identity” has endangered ancient mother tongues. He shared a letter detailing his concerns and listing languages like Bhojpuri, Maithili, Awadhi, and Marwari that are now struggling for survival.
Tamil Nadu’s DMK government has opposed the National Education Policy (NEP), which mandates Hindi in education. Stalin argued that treating Hindi as the “only unifying language” undermines India’s linguistic heritage.
He called the BJP-led Centre’s policy a “systematic” attempt to suppress Indian languages. He challenged claims that only Tamil Nadu and a few states resist Hindi imposition, questioning if Indian unity truly exists without linguistic respect.
Stalin also asked whether non-Hindi signboards were displayed at the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh, where devotees from diverse backgrounds gathered.
