Minister Nandi steps in to diffuse doctor-police showdown in Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ, April 23 (HS): Junior doctors and para medical staff at Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital went on strike for hours on Friday after a showdown between an Inspector posted in Pratapgarh with the hospital staff. Junior doctors alleged that they were thrashed by the inspector and his brothers after their mother died on Friday morning. She was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. After being informed about the strike, cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta went ahead to diffuse the tension. He interacted with police and hospital staff. He assured doctors of action against the accused. On his assurance, junior doctors called off their strike and resumed their duty.

During a candid discussion with HS, he appealed everyone to respect Corona warriors who are burning the midnight oil and treating the patients with dedication without caring for their lives. “Never misbehave with them. If there are any shortcomings in the arrangements, then lodge a complaint with the concerned official so that it can be rectified with immediate effect and those guilty of negligence can be punished. We need to use our presence of mind during adverse circumstances,” he told HS and requested the hospital staff to be polite with the patients and their attendants.

Earlier on Thursday, he started free meal service for Covid-19 patients undergoing home isolation. On Friday, hundreds of food packets were delivered right at the door step of Covid-19 patients in home isolation by the volunteers of Nandi Seva Sansthan. The food can be ordered by simply sending a text message on Whatsapp number 9936667701 by 10 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. for lunch and dinner respectively. The food is being delivered by undertaking all precautions and Covid protocol is adhered in every step of the way.
