Manish Sisodia conceded defeat in Delhi’s Jangpura constituency on Saturday as BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah secured victory. Marwah led Sisodia by 572 votes after the ninth round of counting, according to the Election Commission. By 12:41 pm, Marwah had 34,632 votes, Sisodia had 34,060, and Congress’s Farhad Suri had 6,866.
When asked if the result was final, Sisodia confirmed it. He acknowledged AAP workers’ efforts and thanked supporters but accepted his loss. “I lost by 600 votes. I congratulate the winner and hope he serves the constituency well,” he said.
Sisodia, a three-time MLA from Patparganj, contested from Jangpura this time. Meanwhile, BJP surged ahead in the Delhi Assembly election, leading in 48 seats, while AAP trailed with 22. Key AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Saurabh Bharadwaj, also faced likely defeats.
Tarvinder Singh Marwah, a three-time MLA from Congress, joined BJP in 2022. He previously represented Delhi in 1998, 2003, and 2008. As BJP’s victory became evident, party workers celebrated outside the New Delhi office with firecrackers, dancing, and singing.
