Manipur sees ongoing surrender of arms and explosives

Manipur residents continue to surrender arms and explosives after Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla’s appeal. Police confirmed the voluntary deposit of 33 types of weapons, ammunition, and security gear across Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West, and Bishnupur districts.

In Churachandpur, people turned in two double-barrel guns, a .303 rifle, an SLR rifle, an M4A4 carbine, a local Sten gun, three pump-action guns, three walkie-talkies, magazine pouches, live .303 cartridges, and two hand grenades.

Thoubal saw the surrender of a 9mm Italy-made pistol, a country-made 9mm pistol, a .32 pistol, INSAS LMG and rifle magazines, three 36 HE grenades, a drone bomb, a tube launcher, two stun grenades, bulletproof jackets, riot shields, helmets, and various ammunition.

At Hengang, Yingangpoki, and Porampat police stations in Imphal East, individuals handed over a 9mm pistol, an INSAS rifle magazine with cartridges, an 81mm mortar bomb, four pumpy bombs, five stun grenades, a smoke bomb, ten 7.62mm cartridges, two bulletproof jackets, and fiber plates.

Imphal West witnessed the surrender of two .303 rifles, two .32 country-made pistols, five tube launchers, a 36 HE grenade, and 12-bore ammunition at Lamphel police station.

In Bishnupur’s Nambol area, residents turned in two SBBL guns, three DBBL guns, 30 cartridges, 12 bulletproof jackets, 18 plates, 13 helmets, four walkie-talkies, six pairs of shoes, and 50 rounds of 5.56mm bullets.

Police stated that these surrenders mark a crucial step toward peace and stability. Authorities urged the public to continue surrendering illegal weapons to support the peace process.
