Manipur citizens surrender 87 types of weapons & explosives voluntarily

People in Manipur continue to surrender weapons and explosives after Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla’s appeal. Police confirmed that civilians voluntarily handed over 87 types of arms, ammunition, and military equipment across multiple districts, including Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Jiribam.
In Imphal West, people surrendered 12 CMGs, two .303 rifles, two SLR rifles, four 12-bore single-barrel guns, one IED, and several bullets. Churachandpur saw the surrender of six SLR rifles, three .303 rifles, an INSAS 5.56 LMG, an M-79 UBGL gun, a heavy country-made mortar, and four country-made rockets.
At Porompat and Sagolmung police stations in Imphal East, security forces received SMC carbines, tear gas guns, pistols, stun grenades, 36 HE hand grenades, and ammunition. In Bishnupur, surrendered items included .303 rifles, SBBL and DBBL guns, MMG carbines, bullets, hand grenades, smoke grenades, BP vests, and assault vests.
Thoubal residents turned in one SLR, three sniper rifles, a .32 pistol, a .38 revolver, an 81mm mortar, two mortar shells, 175 .303 live rounds, BP jackets, and jungle boots. Meanwhile, at New Kethalmanbi police station in Kangpokpi, people surrendered an AK-47 rifle, a .303 rifle, a Smith & Wesson revolver, three improvised mortars, nine mortar bombs, and 50 live bullets.
Jiribam witnessed the surrender of three double-barrel guns, a 9mm carbine, an anti-riot gas gun, 36 HE hand grenades, 171 rounds of 7.62mm AK bullets, three helmets, and six BP jackets.
Authorities hailed the move as a significant step toward restoring peace in Manipur. Security agencies emphasized that voluntary disarmament could help stabilize the region and reduce violence.
