Bengaluru, 20 December(HS): The Western Coastal city Mangaluru is limping back to normalcy following clamping of curfew since Yesterday evening. But for essential services like medical services and distribution of milk all other routine activities have come to a grinding halt. It may be recalled here that two persons died in the police firing warranted by an unruly mob that dared to challenge the police action of lathi charge and bursting of teargas shells.

The violent crowd of a few thousand also countered the law enforcement agency personnel by attacking them with stones and went on a rampage of burning public properties like vehicles and two-state government-owned company buses. But the police action became inevitable when the hooligans became uncontrollable and tried to torch the police station itself.
The law and order situation, according to official sources was under control till late in the afternoon. However, as the sunset, the hooligans had a free for all time for themselves. It’s being suspected that the massive loss to the public properties is a result of a big number of people from the neighboring districts of Kerala sneaking into Mangaluru city. As of now, the situation is peaceful following holidays being announced to schools, colleges, and government departments.
