Mamata writes to PM against 100% FDI in coal mining

Kolkata, June 26 (HS). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the Central government’s decision of 100% FDI in coal mining. Along with this, she has criticized the Centre’s decision to shift the headquarters of Coal India Limited and its 4 other sister companies from Kolkata to other cities.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that in 1973, the Central government had nationalized coal mining so that the safety and control of the nation’s energy needs remained with the government. Now when 100% FDI will be approved in it, then it will also be dangerous for the nation.
Apart from this, the Central Government has formulated a new policy in which the headquarters of Bharat Coking Coal Fields Limited, South Eastern Coalfields Limited, Central Coalfields Limited and Mahanadi Coalfield Limited will be shifted from Kolkata to other cities till June 31.
This will not only end the employment of employees, but it is also an inhumane decision in this difficult period of Corona epidemic. Therefore, the Central government should consider its decision. CM has written in his letter that at present, coal mining is benefiting Rs 27000 crore per annum and Rs 31,000 crore of reserved fund is also there.
In such a situation, by approving FDI in this industry, the Central Government has also questioned the potential of mineral mining companies. The Central government should reconsider this decision.
