Kharagpur(West Midnapore)/Kolkata,Dec.13 (HS):Once again reiterating her commitment and determination not to allow the implementation of either the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) or the National Register of Citizens(NRC)in West Bengal ‘under any circumstances’, Chief minister Mamata Banerjee here today gave a clarion call for yet another ‘freedom movement’ in the country, if necessary.
Addressing a meeting in this Industrial town of South Bengal this afternoon after the conclusion of the two day ‘Bengal Business Conclave’ at the sea resort of Digha, about 120 km from Kolkata, yesterday, the Chief minister assured the people, particularly the minority community in the state that there was no cause for concern of loosing their citizenship rights in Bengal.
‘If necessary we shall launch yet another Freedom Movement from Bengal on these issues’,she said.
‘We are here to protect all your citizenship rights and privilages’, she said and claimed that all legal provisions of every citizen of the state as well as in the whole country, as described in the Constitution of India, would continue to remain in force as before.
As usual coming down heavily on the union government under the leadership of Prime minister Narendra Modi and Union Home minister Amit Shah, the Chief minister said she herself and her party – Trinamool Congress- had been opposing the both the bills ‘tooth and nail from the very beginning’ and demanded their scrapping lock stock and barrel. She also blamed  them for allegedly trying to divide the nation on religious ground.
In this connection the Chief minister announced a number of programmes of the ruling TMC all across West Bengal from next week to protest both CAB and NRC in a bid to create a mass public opinion against  them.
As part of the programme a massive rally would be taken out from Central to North Kolkata on Monday next(16 December) against both the bills, before organising similar rally in South Kolkata and other parts of the state soon, she said.
Meanwhile, state BJP President and MP Dilip Ghosh has charged Mamata Banerjee with allegedly trying to convert West Bengal as ‘another state of Pakistan’ by deliberately misleading the people on such an issue which had already been passed in both houses of Parliament and even signed by the President.
It is very unfortunate that  when CAB was set to benefit more than 2.5 crore Bengali refugees in West Bengal alone, It was only she (Mamata Banerjee) as the Chief minister is opposing it for her alleged vested interest ‘, Ghosh said in his remarks.
