Directs state police to take ‘sterner measures’ to control the law and order situation in state
And that too, much more effectively, without showing any weakness or favour to anybody
Kolkata, June 10 (HS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today once again blamed the BJP government at the Centre for allegedly trying to dislodge her elected government by fomenting violence, and directed the state police to take ‘sterner measures’ to control the law and order situation in the state much more effectively, without showing any weakness or favour to anybody.
Addressing all District Magistrates and District Superintendents of Police at the State Secretariat at Nabanna this noon, the Chief Minister expressed serious concern at the growing incidents of political violence in almost every district since the declaration of Lok Sabha Election results in which several people had already been killed and many more injured, and squarely blamed BJP for fomenting trouble against her government.
Under no circumstances the Goonda Raj and attempts to further deteriorate the law and order situation of the state by the Union government would be allowed in this ‘peace loving state’, she roared and directed the senior police and  administrative officials to control the situation with “strong hand and without showing any favour to any party or any political leader”.
“I have been receiving intelligence reports and information from various other sources that in some districts the Officers in Charge of several Police stations and several senior officials have not been performing their duties in proper manners and have even been encouraging violence besides turning blind eyes to several such incidents instead of restoring peace and harmony”, the Chief Minister said in the meeting and warned the top officials that no such act would be tolerated by her government  particularly in view of the alleged attempts (by BJP) to dislodge her government through the ‘back doors’.
Describing herself as an ‘injured tigress, which is far more dangerous than a normal beast’, the Chief Minister also warned the police officials, particularly those serving  in lower ranks, to be ‘very careful’ in not following the directives of the state government, and said if caught in any such acts, they would not only be transferred to remote areas, but would also face other disciplinary measures.
“We are also keeping a close watch in identifying these people and on their performances before taking actions”, she said.
Stating that West Bengal was not like Gujarat or Uttar Pradesh where many innocent people had allegedly been killed on flimsy ground, the Chief Minister described her state as an ‘oasis of peace’ where people from every community had been living in harmony for ages, and in her usual manner once again vent her anger on BJP and blamed the party for allegedly trying to disrupt such peaceful ambiance, while asking the DMs and the SPs to keep their eyes and ears open before taking stern measures.
Though nowhere in her hour long address to the district officials the Chief minister did mention about the recent violence at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district in which at least three people were killed and many others injured, but made it clear that she had decided to take a direct confrontational attitude against the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
Later commenting on the issue and the Chief Minister’s remarks, senior BJP leader and the party’s Central Observer for West Bengal Kailash Vijaybargiya categorically denied the allegation against BJP (of trying to dislodge the TMC government) and  in turn blamed both Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Avishek Banerjee for allegedly making all out efforts to create disturbance in the state on communal line and urged the people to remain alert from any such incident.
“It is the Bua-Nephew duo who have been trying to create a law and problem in the state to divert the public attention and blaming BJP for such acts”, he claimed and called upon the people not to fall prey to any such sinister attempt.
