Kolkata, July 10 (HS): After a gap of nearly ten years, the West Bengal government has decided to appoint 33,687 people to fill the vacancies in various government departments during the coming months, bringing new hopes and aspirations to many educated unemployed youth in the state.
Announcing the government decision amid thumping of desks by her party (Trinamool Congress) members in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly here this afternoon, Chief minister Mamata Banerjee said with a view to fulfilling a large number of vacant posts in almost all government departments, she had decided to appoint a total of 33,687 deserving candidates in various posts to give further boost to the work culture of her government.
Without elaborating further her plan, she however, informed the house during Zero Hour that of the total 33,687 new appointments, altogether 15,160 posts would be Reserved for the candidates from Scheduled castes, Scheduled tribes and other Backward classes, while the rest 18,527 posts would be left for the candidates from General categories.
Though the government did not set any timeline for these new appointments, the posts would be filled up as and when necessary and following the retirement of  permanent employees in every department before the coming state Assembly elections in 2021,she said.
‘We hope following this large scale appointment we shall be able to reach  the best government services to every household in all corners of the state at the earliest’, the Chief minister said amid huge applause from TMC legislators.
Though the ruling TMC members have heartily welcomed the Chief minister’s announcement by thumping of desks, as per the rule, there was no comment from the opposition benches who leave no opportunity to criticize the government every now and then for not creating any employment opportunity for thousands of unemployed educated youth in the state for more than a decade now.
Now it remains to be seen how long the government would take to keep its promise and provide jobs in actual terms to these large number of youths in the state, setting examples to others.
