Major arms and explosives haul in Manipur’s Churachandpur

Security forces have seized a large cache of weapons and explosives from Churachandpur district in Manipur, a region troubled by ongoing violence. On Saturday, the Manipur Police confirmed the recovery, which follows a targeted search operation in the area.

The operation was launched due to intelligence about militant activity in Dampi Reserve Forest, located near the India-Myanmar border. In the course of the search, security forces recovered a variety of arms and ammunition, including one .303 rifle, one .22 rifle, two country-made pistols, and two pumpis.

Additionally, they found 10 Nag .303 live rounds, two 9 mm live rounds, and five 7.62 mm live rounds, along with several other weapons and explosive devices. Among the seized items were five bore cart cases, five pumpi rounds, two tear gas grenades, one smoke grenade, and a 2-inch mortar bomb. Also recovered were 10 grade 2 explosives and 20 detonators.

The discovery follows a surge in violent incidents in Churachandpur, prompting security forces to intensify their operations in the region. The recovered arms and explosives highlight the ongoing threat posed by militants in the area. The operation underscores the security forces’ efforts to curb militant activities and restore stability in the volatile border district.
