Maharashtra: Supreme Court gives time to prove majority in the House of Assembly by 5 pm on Wednesday to Fadnavis government
New Delhi , Nov 26 (HS): The Devendra Fadnavis government has received a major setback from the Supreme Court on the pull of power in Maharashtra. The Fadnavis government has been given time to prove majority in the House of Assembly by 5 pm on Wednesday. The Supreme Court has accepted most of the demands of the opposition. In such a situation, the court has taken a big decision to stop horse-trading.
The opposition demanded a floor test at the earliest. Whereas, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshari gave Devendra Fadnavis time till December 7 to prove his majority. In such a situation, the Supreme Court has decided to conduct a floor test until 5 pm. In this way, Devendra Fadnavis has got only 30 hours to prove his majority. In addition, the court has also ordered the selection of a protem speaker.
The Supreme Court has ordered the entire action to be telecast live during the floor test. In such a situation, it is also a big blow to the ruling party. In such a situation, the action of the House can be seen publicly. Also, MLAs will not be able to vote in secret during the floor test. The Supreme Court has clearly ordered that during floor tests, MLAs will have to vote through ballot paper.
The Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena had a demand from the Supreme Court that the floor test should be conducted as soon as possible and the entire action should be broadcast live. The Supreme Court has approved this, due to which the Devendra Fadnavis government is being considered a big blow.
Whereas, BJP was wishing that Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, who has given time till December 7 to prove his majority, should get a chance to prove his majority at the same time. At the same time, BJP wanted that the proceedings of the House should begin during this time and the MLAs should be administered the oath. All these arguments of the BJP have been rejected by the Supreme Court.
