Mahakumbh alert: Traffic advisory & parking tips for Mauni Amavasya Snan rush
The Uttar Pradesh police have issued a traffic advisory for the anticipated rush at the Mahakumbh Mela on January 29, when devotees gather for the crucial ‘Mauni Amavasya’ bath. This day, known as Maghi Amavasya, holds special significance for Hindus, marking a key ritual during the Kumbh Mela. The authorities aim to ensure smooth, safe experiences for the massive crowd expected to participate in the event.
The police emphasized their commitment to providing a safe environment for devotees. They also detailed traffic restrictions to prevent congestion and potential hazards, particularly in the Mahakumbh area, which will be designated a “no-VIP zone” to prioritize public safety. The area will limit vehicle access to avoid crowding, and only those with assigned slots will be allowed entry, including the akharas.
Pontoon bridges will operate under a one-way traffic system or be closed as needed to ensure safety. These measures aim to manage the crowd and avoid stampedes while making it easier for pilgrims to move safely.
