Kiren Rijiju hits back at Congress for twisting Amit Shah’s comments on Ambedkar
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly criticized Congress on Wednesday for disrupting House proceedings over Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B.R. Ambedkar. Rijiju accused the opposition of distorting Shah’s statement. Congress MPs had raised slogans in the Lok Sabha, demanding an apology from Shah, while displaying posters of Ambedkar.
Rijiju clarified that a small clip of Shah’s Rajya Sabha speech was being circulated, which misrepresented his actual words. He condemned this distortion, asserting that Shah had clearly stated that Congress had insulted Ambedkar when he was alive. Rijiju further accused the opposition party of using Ambedkar’s name for political and electoral gain to “wash their sins.”
The Union Minister emphasized that the Modi government has done a lot to honor Ambedkar. “We respect Ambedkar,” Rijiju remarked, pointing out that the current government has shown significant respect for Ambedkar’s contributions.
Rijiju also reminded the Congress of the historical context, stating that Ambedkar had to resign from Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet due to insult and alleged mistreatment. “Congress should explain why Ambedkar had to resign from the Nehru cabinet,” Rijiju said.
He accused Congress of making Ambedkar lose in the Lok Sabha elections, highlighting what he described as the party’s role in undermining Ambedkar during his lifetime.
