Riyadh, Jan 24(HS): After China and America, the first cases of coronavirus have also been reported in Saudi Arabia. A nurse from Kerala who works in a Saudi hospital has been infected with this deadly virus. Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muralitharan has confirmed the news. Currently, the nurse is undergoing treatment.
Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muralitharan said about 100 Indian nurses mostly from Kerala working at Al-Hayat hospital have been tested and none except one the nurse was found infected by Coronavirus. The affected nurse is being treated at Aseer National Hospital and is recovering well.
Earlier in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, a 45-year-old Indian school teacher was reported to have been infected with the coronavirus. However, her husband confirmed that she is suffering from streptococcal and is undergoing treatment.
Kerala Health Minister KK Selaja said that according to information from Gulf countries, Malayali nurses have tested positive for coronavirus, however, no official numbers or confirmation have yet been received. KK Selja said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written a letter to the central government on this issue.
In a letter written to the center, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, “Coronavirus infection is serious among Indian nurses at Azir Aba Al Hayat Hospital in Saudi Arabia. Necessary steps should be taken in this matter. The Ministry of External Affairs should talk to Saudi Arabia to ensure proper treatment and safety for patients.
