Thiruvananthapuram, 26 October (H.S): A lady entrepreneur?s dream of opening the first non-halal shop in Kerala came to an abrupt end even before it was inaugurated on Monday. Islamic extremists aided by CPI(M) workers assaulted Thushara Ajit and vandalized the restaurant serving only non-halal foods at Palarivattam, a suburb in Ernakulam.

Though Kerala is being projected as the most literate and secular State in India by none other than Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, the God?s Own Country has become an undeclared Caliphate with Jihadis having the last word on all social issues. Needless to say, the media in Kerala dominated by the pro-CPI(M) and Jihadi elements blacked out the news even as Thushara was writing in pain in a suburban hospital in Ernakulam.

?Selling and consumption of halal food is anathema in Hindu and Sikh religions. It is to help these segments of the population we opened an eatery like this. But the Jihadis who charged into the hotel assaulted me physically and destroyed all the properties in the newly opened establishment,? Thushara Ajit told Hindustan Samachar. The entrepreneur has been admitted to a hospital in Thrikkakkara with serious injuries. She said the attackers warned her against selling the meat of pork.

In Kerala, which has more than 30 per cent Muslim population, there is an unofficial ban on the sale and consumption of pork, an item banned by the Muslim community. The Christians, for whom the pork is a staple food, have to be extra cautious while shopping for the meat. Shops are not allowed to sell the meat of pork while hotels have removed the item from the menu long back.

The Viswa Hindu Parishat has strongly condemned the attack on Thushara Ajit. ?It is strange to note that she was attacked for selling non-halal food, the freedom for which is granted in the Indian Constitution. There is no ban in the consumption of pork,? said VHP?s state leadership.

The Hindu United Front (Hindu Aikya Vedi) questioned the propriety of the Kerala Police in filing a case against Thushara for opening the non-halal eatery and for the attack on her. ?The victim has been listed as the accused in the case registered by Kerala Police. This means that the Hindus in the State are at the mercy of Islamic terrorists,? said R V Babu, general secretary of HAV. He alleged that a prominent CPI(M) leader is behind the attack on Thushara.

Mohammed Riyaz, Minister for Tourism and PWD, the de facto number two in Kerala cabinet because of being the son-in-law of the chief minister enjoys strong clout in police and the general administration of the State. He is also known as a hardcore Islamist who believes in the validity of Tripple Talaq and wants the enforcement of Quranic directives with regard to the non-Islamic population.
