Karnataka: Brisk polling begins for 15 Assembly constituencies
Bengaluru,05 December(HS): Brisk polling has been reported from all the 15 Assembly constituencies across the state wherein bye-elections have been necessitated following the resignations of sitting Indian National Congress(INC) and Janata Dal-Secular(JD-S) MLAs’.
The outcome of these polls is crucial for the continuance of the BS Yediyurappa led Bharatiya Janata Party state government. BJP needs to win in at least six seats to prove a simple majority on the floor of the house.
Polling began at 7 am and is slated to continue till 6 pm in the evening. In all 165 candidates are in the fray while the ruling BJP and INC are contesting in all the 15 constituencies, JD-S is trying its luck in 12 constituencies.
A total of 37,82,681 voters are entitled to exercise their franchise and out of which 19,25,529 are men and 18,52,027 are women. 79,714 newly registered voters are using their rights for the first ever time. 414 others include the list.
Just like BS Yediyurappa, the results of the bye-election results are also significant for the political future of Siddaramaiah, former chief minister and Congress Legislature Party(CLP) leader. Most of the 14 Congress MLAs’ who quit their MLA positions happened to be ardent followers of the Congress leader.
It’s also no way different to both, HD Devegowda and HD Kumaraswamy, father and son duo of the regional family outfit Janata Dal-Secular(JD-S) as they are determined to defeat all those responsible for the ouster of their JDS-INC coalition government.
Two constituencies Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency in Bengaluru city and Maski in Raichuru are not going to the polls as the defeated BJP candidates have contested the victory of the Congress candidates during the May 2018 general elections.
All but R Shankar in Ranebennur in Haveri district and R Roshan Baig in Shivajinagar in the city have been given BJP tickets to contest the bye-polls.
