Karnataka braces for heatwave, Odisha awaits cooling showers: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heatwave conditions for northern interior Karnataka until March 20. Meanwhile, Odisha may get relief with rain expected over the next few days.
On Tuesday, Kalaburagi in Karnataka recorded a high of 42.8°C. The IMD station in Kalaburagi noted a temperature of 36.3°C by 10 a.m. The weather department had earlier predicted a heatwave in the region from March 18-20 as summer sets in.
While temperatures soared in some areas, districts like Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Chamarajanagar experienced light to moderate rainfall.
Heatwave in Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) also issued a heatwave alert. It predicted extreme heat in 58 mandals on March 19. Pedda Devalapuram in Nandyala district recorded the highest temperature at 42.7°C, followed by Ulindakonda in Kurnool at 42.6°C.
Odisha Braces for Relief
Odisha faced severe heatwave conditions from March 16-18, prompting an orange alert for several districts. However, rain, lightning, and thunderstorms are expected from March 19-21, bringing much-needed relief.
On March 18, Boudh recorded 43.6°C, making it the hottest place in India. Bhubaneswar saw a high of 34.6°C. The IMD forecasts light rain or thundershowers in Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Balasore, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack on March 19.
Heatwave Across India
Apart from Odisha, heatwaves gripped several regions, including Jharkhand, West Bengal, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, northern Telangana, and Chhattisgarh.
In Jharkhand, seven districts recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C on Sunday. Authorities continue to monitor extreme weather patterns as summer intensifies.
