Kangana Ranaut announced the OTT release date of her film Emergency. On Friday, she shared the news on Instagram Stories. She re-shared a fan post featuring collages of herself and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Alongside the post, she wrote, “17th March releasing on @netflix.”

Fans can watch Emergency on Netflix starting March 17. The film premiered in theaters on January 17 and earned ₹21.65 crore in India, according to Sacnilk.com.

About Emergency

Kangana played the role of Indira Gandhi in Emergency. The film focuses on the controversial Emergency period from 1975 to 1977. Kangana not only starred in the film but also directed it. The cast includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik.

Controversies and Delays

Emergency faced multiple challenges, including release delays, censor issues, and protests from Sikh groups. In August last year, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sent a legal notice to the producers. The notice accused the film of misrepresenting Sikh history and demanded the removal of objectionable scenes portraying “anti-Sikh” sentiments.

Despite the controversies, Kangana moved forward with the film’s release. Now, fans who missed its theatrical run can stream it on Netflix from March 17.
