J&K encounter: Security forces eliminate 5 terrorists in Kulgam
Security forces killed five terrorists in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday. The encounter began after a joint team of the Indian Army and J&K Police launched a search operation in the Kadder area. They acted on specific intelligence inputs about terrorist presence.
The operation escalated when the terrorists opened fire on the forces. Security personnel retaliated, triggering a gun battle. According to the Army’s Chinar Corps, troops observed suspicious activity and challenged the terrorists. “The terrorists responded with heavy gunfire, but our forces retaliated effectively,” the statement said. The operation remains ongoing.
This incident follows a string of recent encounters in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier this month, security forces killed a terrorist involved in civilian killings in Ganderbal and other attacks. Last month, three terrorists were neutralized in separate operations in Anantnag and Khanyar.
The region has also witnessed deadly attacks on civilians. On October 20, terrorists killed seven people, including a local doctor and two workers from Bihar, at a tunnel construction site in Ganderbal. These attacks have heightened tensions in the area.
National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah voiced concerns over the surge in terror incidents. He suggested these could aim to destabilize the newly formed government under Omar Abdullah’s leadership. Farooq called for an independent investigation into the rising violence.
The security forces remain vigilant as they continue to counter terrorism in the region. This latest operation highlights ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
